  • Funny thing about this performance is, these were the only 2 songs they played at the Isle Of Wight Festival. Sly got into a thing about not wanting to be filmed that night. I believe he also had an issue w/ the organizers/promoters of the Isle of Wight and the way things were being handled behind the scenes.

  • Sharp astute observation and info wreckords!That really sounds like Sly and it's quite a shame that he,for whatever set of reasons,had subsequently deprived the musical world of his genius and unique contribution given his incredible talent and electrifying on stage presence.

  • Glad you dig it OB!

  • My pleasure electricfunk. Saw this group live back in the day. To say they rocked the house would be an understatement.

  • Nice one Jimbo. I've been wanting to hear their Isle of Wight performance for years! Superb.

  • Sly & The Family Stone did get to play an entire set. However they didn't get to do an encore because some guy stole the microphone and began a political rant. The annoyed audience started to boo, beer cans startet to fly. One can hit Freddie Stone, and an angry Sly decided to end the set.

  • Sly and the Family Stone at the Isle of Wight 1970...from vinyl...hot!

  • is there any way i could get this downloaded?

  • Greg Errico can really lay down a sick beat.

  • In my opinion, the performance of these two songs here were somewhat superior compared to the Woodstock performance. I read somewhere that as great as the Woodstock performance was, they were not fully happy with their performance. They had technical issues to deal with, starting at 3am, etc.

    What is great about the band is that they never play the songs the same in every performance I've heard. There always seem to be some variations to how they played, stretched out certain parts, etc.

  • LOVE THIS SONG ::))

  • I have fond memories of these two songs. Back in 1970's I had one tape of The First Great Rock Festivals: Isle Of Wight & Atlanta Pop Festival Vol 1 Artsists ... Sly & The Family Stone, David Bromerg, Kris Kristofferson, Leonard Cohen, Poco , Ten Years After - Allman Brothers, Johnny Winter, Procul Harum. The two standout performances were from Sly & The Family Stone and The Allman Brothers with Whippin post. The best version of You Can Make It and best of Whippin Post. Poco was nice too.

  • I'm a big fan of Sly & The Family Stone, and I also happen to have the Isle Of Wight DVD... Hendrix, The Who, The Doors, Leonard Cohen, Moody Blues, etc.. but no Sly Stone. Why? Does anybody know? In fact there are no DVDs of Sly Stone available in the shops at all, and it's outrageous!!!

  • This was the actual Isle of Wight songlist:
