  • I used to run the MATADOR pub, which was full of characters does anyone remember mad Hazel that used to get her boobs out for a pint of mild,or Shocker who used to sing pennies from heaven. Tuesdays was pensioner day, they all got wrecked one old lady was 101 years old, she drank a pint of mild with a pinch of salt in it.

  • @muldoonmax Yep! The original Oasis was a fascinating labyrinth full of unusual stuff. There used to be a guy there who imported vintage American clothing, long before it became 'fashionable'.

  • Wow it only seems like yesterday! I used to work as a projectionist at the Odeon New Street Cinema. We also had the Beatles and Rolling Stones on stage!

  • I guess you cant stop the invitable

  • Its a shame the corporations have taken over and the market Traders have been pushed to the side. They were the heart and soul of the Bull Ring and a big part of Brums History,They got pushed out onto Edgebaston Street and some have closed do to high rents for there stall. Now it looks like they are getting pushed out again due to the south side Regeneration project. The wholesale market is due to be pulled down aswell.Market traders fought hard 20 years ago when they saw this coming.

  • I hated the Old Bull Ring centre. It was horrible with troublemakers hanging around, i was only a kid,but it was scary. That is the trouble with buildings built in the post-water era, they become crime hotspots when they start to decline.

  • Those were the days, I lived in Birmingham city centre during the 90s so I often visited the Bull Ring. The old Bull Ring centre may have been run down, but it had a real character and atmosphere back then that is totally missing from the new Bullring.

  • @sph476 i remember shocker shilling well lol

  • @Dave84843 I agree the Old Bull Ring was in a terrible state during the late 80s and 90s but working there I can tell you first hand it was never the building that made Bull Ring it was the people and personalitys that made Bull Ring such fun to work there. The current BullRing is very nice but what will people say 20 years from now?Buildings are just bricks and water.

  • The old bull ring did change i left in 69, made a trip back in 86 just to look at it, all i could see was little african types hanging around, i gave one of them a slap, i made off very shaply, as the corrupt big foots were shit fred of them gollis, why i don`t know.
