My 6 year old Nokia 6230 ( an RF Rock Star Phone) shown on the table and then picked up in my hand...loses 'bars'. Bars come back when on table again. A common mobile phone issue - and not unusual to expect of this in the iPhone 4, 3GS, etc.

    @viewfly: You wrote

    "there is misunderstanding of this received signal problem and hand influence"

    What are you talking about. The received signal degrades due to hand influence...or in other words, due to the "finger loading" effect issue that makes the antenna detuned, thus lossing sync with the system.

    This Nokia tes that you are showing is not an atenna detuning problem, It is just antenna shadowing. iPhone4 issues is antenna detuning, which is a defect. Period.

    Detuning of an antenna can occur without touching as well. This is basic antenna design theory and how one actually designs some antennas... i.e. Yagi non touching elements that 'tune' for maximum gain. And likewise the opposite can occur.

    Sure...I agree..Physics is timeless...

    But mobile devices do not use Yagi antennas. Most of them use a basic dipole element with 0dbi gain if you are lucky...but HEY....that is an idea...maybe we can use a Yagi antenna with the new iPhone4......maybe a universal band Yagi antenna !!!! I think you are into something here my dear viewfly....

    Boy, your head must be made of wood ( a good RF attenuator) if you don't understand basic RF design. Geez.

    The nokia 6230 is one of the best phones ever made. It had Bluetooth 2.0, a 1.3MP camera, the best reception ever (literally, I would have 4 bars in areas notorious for 0 signal for all carriers) a battery that lasted weeks without charging, voice control, and a ton of other features that no phones had for years after it... It may look like a hunk of shit, but it was insane... a true sleeper, I still have 2 of them laying around just in case.
