A report to the Southeast Michigan region on transit:
Improving transit has been a nice-to-have goal for many years. Now there seems to be a new spirit and an increased sense of urgency. Now is the time to improve transit and add the expanded bus and regional rail and light rail service that this region deserves.
SEMCOG and its partners are excited about the progress thats been made, where we go from here, and what you can do to help. So, get on board with SEMCOGNOW!

  • Has anyone watched the news lately? Where will this money come from? Instead of a light rail why don't you improve current transport. Offer more buses, online tracking via mobile devices. Buses do not need an new infrastructure. Offer Tax incentives/refunds to people who ride mass transit. Promote the idea of telecommuting to work once or more a week. There are many ways to solve the problem, I don't even see a price tag on this and don't want to.

  • Communities are seeking to implement an overall public transportation network to provide better transit options to seniors and the disabled, promote transit oriented development, and promote regional economic growth.

The MiRideshare program serves over 5,100 users. This program is promoted through the use of changeable message signs on the freeways and outreach efforts of the SEMCOG Communications staff.

  • Where will this money come from?

Your pocket! And what are you gunna do about it?

  • I really hope that the light rail would go at least to Birmingham

  • We need light rail now. Every major city has some form of rail system and those cities are doing way better than metro Detroit. Michigan and southeast Michigan is so far behind the rest of the country. Light rail trains out last buses by at least 25 years or more. Light rail track has I believe a 50 year life span. Start up will be expensive, but it will pay for itself in the long run.

  • Southeast michigan could have subways, above-ground light rail systems, 21st century hybrid buses, 24-hour service, and more.. help make it happen! contact your elected officials today!
