The groove is Philly Salsoul from about 1976/77 - the shrieking female about 17" in, is Lolleatta Holloway from her cut 'Hit and Run' (Salsoul Records). This style of hi hat came from Philly drummer Earl Young who appeared on thousands of PIR/Salsoul records and came up with the lick on two notable Philly hits by Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes called ' The Love I lost' and 'Bad Luck'.
