In 1971 Norman Dewis was driving the Jaguar XJ-13 around the MIRA test rack at 140 mph when it lost a wheel. Fortunately both car and driver survived. This short video shows the original rebuilt XJ13.

  • Was there ever a road-going version?

  • If it isn't road legal then I don't think it would be difficult to achieve. It is a one-off prototype but there are a few replicas around which I assume are road legal.

  • You're right I was lucky but not completely.

    I videoed the run from the passenger seat too but when I got out discovered that I'd actually confused start and stop on the camcorder. Doh!

  • Incredibly noisy too! I made the mistake of standind directly behind it when it was started at this year's Goodwood Festiva. I couldn't get my fingers to my ears quick enough!

  • The XJ13 is now, in the lastest Gran Turismo 5 game for the PS3.Hopefully it sounds exactly like that.Love the quad cam growl, awesome.
