The UN's World Meteorological Organization has declared 2010 as the joint winner for the warmest year on record, tying with the previous numbers posted for 2005. They made the announcement after compiling data from the three biggest agencies that monitor that sort of information -- NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in the United States, and the Met Office in the U.K.

A Swedish family have won a competition that entitles them to a six-month stay in an eco-house with an electric car awaiting them on the drive.
The family have been set the target of dramatically reducing their own carbon footprint as part of the experiment, and that may mean dispensing with some home comforts.
