Back in 2008 shortly before we went back to the US I did a solo trip. My intention was to upload these videos as segments on my channel. Showing them to friends back home universally they all said, "We had no idea you were so beat up!" There had been many, serious, things happening in my life at this time. I hadn't realized how much stress I had been under or the effect it was having on me. I have been reluctant to upload these videos because they don't show my usual upbeat self.

Nothing hits the reset button like solitude in the wilderness. It was on this trip that I remembered what it felt like to feel normal. It was a long time after this that, that feeling became the default setting of my life.

Now that we are back in Brazil and a great many of the problems I had been facing are resolved these videos no longer represent the last of our days here.
We are back in the place we consider home doing what we love with the people we are called to serve and I can't tell you how huge that is for us. Depression is a tunnel, not a mine, you can come out the other end into the light of day.

Over the next few weeks I'll upload the rest of videos as I get them re-edited.

  • I'm in that same place now as you were in 2008. It was encouraging to see you feel that time outdoors can help, I was thinking the same thing. Good luck fellow bushcrafter. S, from UK.

  • @bikenutter1 I was totally beat up at that time and getting out to clear my head was the best thing I could have done. You can really see it in the video "Coffee and Confession". I didn't realize how much stress I had been under until later. Thankfully it all turned out well in the end, we're back in Brazil doing what we love and learning to pace ourselves a bit better.

  • Good Info- Great idea smoothin' out the ground. !

  • Excellent video. Do you cover the fist estimation technique in later videos? How does it work? It seems as though you are "sitting" your fist on the horizon line and counting upwards...

  • Amen! Nothing like some time of fellowship with the Lord all alone to bind up those wounds. Priceless.

  • sick of people ?? whattt ??? LOLLLLLLLL....

  • I really love these vids, I just hate the sound of those flying insects. It makes me uneasy lol.

  • I'm glad to see you uploaded the video of your solo sojourn. (been waiting months for this!) Wish I had known sooner, but it's like a Star Trek episode you missed; it's never out of date.

Anyway, thanks for posting. (On to vid #2!)

  • How far was the hike in?

  • Great vid!!! thanks!

  • Cool video. Man do I understand the "had it with people" statement lol, time a lone in the bush does wonders for the soul!
