it's not out of time, it's being played as intended. he's implementing a technique called phasing where the two drummers play the same thing but at slightly different tempos or polymeter so that they match up every now and then and sound off intermittently. these players did a very good job of keeping their individual times amongst all of the chaos going on in my opinion, that's how it's impressive.
