This is how gene looked when I saw him in Sept of 1961. I was 7 years old (almost) and it was (and is to this day) the most exciting thing that ever happened to me.

I was born in 1943, my parents bought me a Victrola record player when I was 4, I played Gene Autry's records on my little record player. Parents brought me from Queens to Macy's in Manhattan when Autry was making a personal appearance. I walked up to Autry and started screaming and crying. "what did I do to that little girl?" says Autry. True story. Parents took me home.

I remember him on tv back in tthe fifty, at the end of each show he would talk to the kids. I for one took in every thing he said and tried to live my life by his words. The one I remember most, he said kids don't call policemen cop, cops or copper always say sir or mr. policeman. To this day I hate when someone saids cops

i am reading the book now thanks .but why ruin a mans rep ?when he was a true hero and a legend to some growing up and allways set a good example to kids even if just on tv .God knows we could use good morals now
