This video is a bit boring, unless you're trying to set up a moderately large standalone OpenSim sim. This is my first publicly viewable grid, although the 40-region terrain that is viewed here in a test visit to rez each of the 40 regions has been used on a local development machine for a couple of months.
Server: 2x Xeon 3.4 GHz / 4 GB server (HP DL360 G4 of 2006) Ubuntu 8.04 x86_64; mono x86_64 1.9.1; libopenJPEG x86_64; Open Dynamics Engine x86_64; OpenSim 0.5.8_5411 of 20080710

Client SL viewer 1.19.1.4 on Win XP with FRAPS, downsampled to 400x300 at 6 FPS.

  • so this is a free fully functionaly sim that i can have people tp 2 and so on? because if it is i need this program lol i dnt want to pay 200usd a month

  • Sure it is functional - and if it is running on a public server then you can give people a URI and they can log in. The 40-region model was running during the ESRI International User Conference in 2008 and we had three workstations on the show floor from which people of all ages were logging in and zipping around Berkeley)

  • I wrote an article post on "How to Build Your Own Virtual World" using the Diva Distribution Standalone Hypergrid version of Opensim. It gives detailed instructions for setting up on a Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 and can be found at rocketvirtual
