For the third in the "Legacies of Linville Gorge" series ... it just had to be Allen T. Hyde.

Allen is the author of "The Linville Gorge Hiker's Guide" and the winner of the 2008 "Willie Parker Peace History Book Award" from the North Carolina Society of Historians. Allen saw a need to document the trail system that exists in the Linville Gorge Wilderness area above and beyond the officially published USFS trail system.

Allen lives 150 feet or so from the Linville Gorge boundary and makes it a point to hike all of the trails each year, most twice. His book is in it's third printing and is a valuable addition to any hiker or lover of the Linville Gorge Wilderness Area.

Join me for a snap shot of one of the true legacies of Linville Gorge as I visit with him in the home he built by hand on the edge of what we Gorge Rats refer affectionately as the Big Ditch.
