Noam Chomsky: Why is Iraq Missing from 2008 Presidential Race?
In a major address, Noam Chomsky says there has been little change in the conventional debate over a US invasion abroad: from Vietnam to Iraq, the two main political parties and political pundits differ only on the tactics of US goals, which are assumed to be legitimate. On the other hand, public opposition to war has also remained consistent, Chomsky says, but, whether Iraqi or American, ignored. [includes rush transcript]

  • The reason so many Americans dislike Chomsky is because Chomsky uses sources outside of American media. He listens to international sources and does a meta-analysis of all the data, therefore making his conclusions more accurate. Americans dislike this because the international community almost unanimously disagrees with their position regarding the Middle East.

    tl;dr

    Chomsky is unbiased and Americans who only watch American media hate this.

  • Being a REAL liberal is fucking tough. You just get the same wishy washy democrats over and over again that love our corporate empire as much as the republicans. obama hasn't done anything in the way of real reform (the healthcare bill was a fucking joke that gave 40,000 people to greedy insurance monopolies). I'm only 20 and people my age wonder why i'm bitter. I'm amazed that chomsky can be so calm about this. I would be screaming.

    The bad news that in a few months millions of Iraqis, Libyans, Egyptians and Syrians wil startl kill each other in civil wars that will never end.

    The good new is, Amy Goodman will right a best selling book, blaming it all on Jewish Republicans.

  • @b1naryd1g1t5 u would fuck her at woodstock dont lie!! :P

  • Noam, Noam, Noam...you must stop confusing these people with the facts! Americans are so befuddled by media propaganda that they wouldn't know the truth if it hit them in the face. The problem with a voice crying in the wilderness is that very few people are in the wilderness!

  • @chinopisces

    Well, that's better. I guess I'll have to take a look. But his commentary, lacking authoritative sources, lacks authority itself.

  • @quabot: He does. Just not all the time. Chomsky is known for his rather long commentaries, and most lay people glaze over his speaking style. If you really want him to cite his factual sources, read his books.

    @chinopisces

    Correct, because an opinion is by definition neither right nor wrong.

    However, when he states a FACT, something that can be proven right or wrong, he would be more convincing to quote a source, preferably a reliable one.
