Tsem Tulku Rinpoche's VERY IMPORTANT teaching given in 1998.

The heart of Buddhist wisdom in eight short verses, elucidated by a fearless pioneer of contemporary Dharma.

Unconditional love and freedom are here and now if we let go of self-centred obsession and let ourselves be embraced by WHAT IS.

The very life we are living, with all its difficulties, failures and frustrations, can be the road to liberation. The world can be our school of transformation. Everybody becomes our best friend. We become our own best friend.

Deeper and deeper, from learning to cherish all beings as precious, to realising that those we perceived as enemies are our supreme teachers, the teachings in this book take us, into our innermost heart where we discover that we are the light we have been longing for.

  • Thank you Rinpoche.... I really needed to hear this right now. May I offer the victory to others, may I treasure my enemy as a precious treasure, may I see my enemy as my supreme teacher. How fortunate I am to have my enemy in my life to give me the opportunity to practice in a real situation.

May I see my enemy as the provider of all my virtues.

  • The eight verses contains all the 84000 teachings of the Buddha that opposes the 84000 afflictive emotions. The first seven verses deal with method and the last verse is the wisdom teaching. Just practicing this can lead to enlightenment.

  • Having said that we must repay the kindness of mother sentient beings the best way to benefit them is for us to be a full enlightened being who will have much methods and capacity to help mother sentient beings long term and also short term.

  • Within Mahayana Buddhism , the first step to developing bodhicitta is to view all sentient beings has been our mother, due to us having innumerable lifetimes. It will be not filial for us to let mother sentient beings suffer.

  • How can we not respect the very objects ( sentient beings ) that are pushing us towards enlightenment . As it is through sentient beings that enable us to do dharma practice. Even if we do not like one person shows us that we do not have the quality to be enlightened. That puts things into perspective.

  • Attachment or Aversion is due to our unrealistic projection on what or how things should be.

  • The very flesh that we have to do dharma practice comes from our mothers. That is something to reflect on. Hence mothers are very very kind. We can never repay the kindness of our mothers.

  • Its actually our projection that causes us to suffer not the situation or the person, we project on to others and others project on to us. People should be like this or like that. We should accept people for what they are.

  • During the course of the talk Rinpoche mentioned this very meaningful phrase Your enemy is your provider of all your virtues.

  • The way Rinpoche describes the kindness of a mother and how much the mother would go through to bring life for us, and it is very moving, and makes me appreciate my mother even more .
