General Crook in the late 60's and early 70's recorded some hard soul and funk for Burgess Gardner's Down To Earth label in Chicago. The records were good and they were hits. But leave it to pghpookie to give you General's softer side. From 1974, a super sound from Wand Records which showcases a mellow/quiet storm feeling. Crook had sung with Gardner's Soul Crusaders Orchestra which performed everything from Soul to Standards, so this style was an easy step for the General. Superb Soul from another artist who deserved more listens and recognition.

  • General Crook was smoothe before I was! :) I caught this vibe as a teen in '73. I looked for it for many years and am pleased to find it here although this is a shortened version from the LP. Good job pghpookie!

  • glad you liked this. thanks for watching. this is the single(radio) edit, the LP version played a lot longer.

  • Oh my goodness. I do not know how I missed this record when it was originally released. Radio DJ Felix Hernandez, played it one Sunday on his program, here in New York City, this year 2010. I have loved it since then. Thank you Felix. I went and found it at Striders Record Store in the West Village here in New York City. When I put it on the turntable to play, I let play over and over.

  • Magnificent! They DO NOT make music like this anymore... and NEVER will. Pghpookie.
