Green candidate for the Goldsmid by-election, Alex Phillips, here asks the Conservative cabinet to bring 20mph limits to our city to make streets safer. The response from leader Cllr Mary Mears is non-committal at best. The Goldsmid Ward council by-election is on Thursday 23rd July 2009. Promoted by Nigel Tart on behalf of Alex Phillips, both at 39-41 Surrey St, Brighton, BN1 3PB.
We'd all be a lot safer is we never left our houses and worked from home. I find Alex's suggestion that we support diesel-drinking, smoke-emitting trains and walking to be ludicrous. Does she really believe walking is sustainable? Where exactly does she think the energy for walking comes from? I'll tell you where, from animal concentration camps and river-polluting pesticide-infested farms - delivered to you via trucks that emit bricks-worth of carbon. WALKING IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT.
