J is almost 5. He is autistic. He is non-verbal and, so far, does not mimic anything we say or do.
In this video, J is playing with his Dad. Dad is trying to teach him Mama and Dada, and although J is not consistently repeating the words, he seems to be mimicking the rhythm of his father's speech.

  • I have watched this a few times now and can't believe how similar his sounds are to my son Benton's sounds he makes. Sometimes we can get him to say the mamamamama sound but only when HE wants to- not when we want him to. But ALOT of the sounds J Makes are just like Bentons like EXACTLY - kinda weird. I'll try to get another video of him where hes making these sounds and sent it to you guys if u dont mind. I wont use music this time-promise!

  • I'd like that, Michelle. Thank you. To see and hear another child like my son would be amazing.

  • heyy there!!! what a wonderfull son!! iam a student at a local collage in my home town and im studying autistic. kids! maby one approch since he canot speak get a lap top and get note pad open! and let him try and talk too you in that way! there was a case of a boy he is 8 and he would type and spell better then any adult he just knew how to type and respond! hope u can try!

  • My opinion - I learnt that when they appear to be excited, they feel fear or anger, be really gentle with them. Try to think that they feel angry all the time even they smile or be excited. It works when you see them responding calmer and happier =)

A gentle touch, i mean really gentle sounds.

  • unconditional love

    is seen

    through this man's eyes

    for his son

  • Good work. Hopefully everything will start changing ,once he will start speaking out words.

My son is 3 , similar story - no eye contact ,no verbal - but games, sounds, attention are probably only good therapy.

  • My son now at 5 yrs old says "tickle" the only word he can say, it started out lick lick lick" then lickalickalicka" now tickle" but sometimes it's still "lickle" So i think it is a beginning of speech. Unfortunately my son hasn't spoken any more words yet, but does say"guya ha" for going out. Don't get discouraged it is pretty slow for us, but at least it is emerging anything new that doesn't hurt him is good as far as we are concerned.

  • my brother is 9 and has autism and hes the smartest in his special ed class ......and he loves being hugged by mom but he doesnt want me 2 hug him sometimes

  • aww at least he seems to have some eye contact and enjoys some hugs and snuggles!

some autistic children could care less if their parents touched them. It just depends on how their brain is wired

  • He is he mimicking the rhythm of speech :D

Mi son used to make the same, and now he is spelling his firsts words, he is 4 :D

continue with the good job :D

Hugs! im very glad for you
