The time lapse mode on a Canon G9 digital point-and-shoot camera was used to capture a monarch caterpillar transforming into its chrysalis stage. This 2-minute video spans about 30 minutes (or less) of real-time activity. The shedding of the skin, once started, took less than 5 minutes of the overall time. Time lapse mode was set at one image per two seconds.
