  • Mik slightly fluffs the violin solo during the intro. I'm always surprised JL kept it. Mik gets it spot on the second time.

Can anyone confirm that on Out Of The Blue and A New World Record Mik Hugh and Mel played full parts on all songs in the studio, with the orchestra separately recorded over them? Or not?

  • I read somewhere that Melvyne Gale never actually played on any of the Albums..only the stage shows.I'm not sure about Mik and Hugh playing on all of the songs on those two albums.I know Mik played on quite a few of the songs with his violin solo's.

  • Thank you GeorgeTowler!

  • In 1977 i was 6. My fav Albums were Abba ' the album' and Elo's 'Out of the blue'. In 1986 i was 15 and spotty. My fav albums were Aha latest and 'out of the blue' By 1995 i was 24 and trendy. My best albums that year was Blur's 'Great escape' and 'out of the blue'. Today im 37 and older. I listen to stuff from the hoosiers to muse - and yep, I still listen just as much to 'out of the blue'. That's what happens when someone creates a true masterpiece. It's timeless. And it always will be.

  • ELO, Jeff Lynne, Richard Tandy, Bev Bevan, Kelly Groucutt, Mik Kaminski, Melvyn Gale, Hugh McDowell, the whole squad was and are an amazing band.

An opinion from a 12 year old. :D

  • A great song, and an awesome album.

  • the train intro is borrowed from an old Idle Race song called chief Wooly bosher, about halfway through that song you can just hear it.

  • This is a close cousin of Showdown and reflects Jeff's Wild West obsession.

  • When Jeff wrote "The Way Life's Meant to be" he was obviously stealing it from this one. (Can you steal from yourself? lol)

  • Love the Mariachi brass on this.

  • I grew up with ELO during the 70s and 80s. We went our separate ways during the late 80s but we are back together now...great band. RIP Mike Edwards.

  • When I hear this song It ALWAYS reminds me of Heroes and Villains by the Beach Boys ;)

  • @cvhf650 wrong, that is Jeff as one of the voices singing.

  • @SONOR4

I don't know for sure but I always had the idea that the strings were only used on live shows after from Eldorado onwards.

  • What a wonderful end of a wonderful song
