Current State Of Persian Hip-Hop

Since its beginnings, persian hip-hop has been a revolutionary socio-cultural movement in Iran. While many artists have been active in promoting this music, Reveal, aka Mehrak, has been one of the key characters in the development and growth of hip-hop music in Iran, through his collaborations with Iranian rap artists such as Hichkas ('the godfather of persian hip-hop'), in addition to his endless support for the oppressed artists currently living under the Islamic Republic. While Reveal is based out of London, England, he has been an instrumental piece in the progress of persian hip-hop for several years.

Sam Ali Kashani sat down with Reveal to hear his opinion on the current state of persian hip-hop.

I'm lovin that track at the end of this vid. As far as hip hop goes you gotta dig beneath all the bling and all the nonsense to get to the real essence of hip hop cause all that stuff on MTv is what sells records.

Lyricism and a deep message is what it's really all about. I think it's amazin there is persian hip hop. Hip hop has come a long way

from poor black kids in the bronx who couldn't afford instruments. I always new it would take over the world some day.

Hip hop is real expression when the rapper is true to him or herself. Speak you mind in rap and in everyday life. The concept is simple. Why you want to get all defensive just cos of some swear words? There's other bigger things to worry about..

Hip hop can be the most powerful of music for social change and expression. If you don't like it just switch off your radio, tv or internet when it comes on. Don't judge the rest of us, just cos you don't understand what you hear.

In short

Hip-hop's not a real expression. It's a toxic culture where at least in a subconscious level teaches people to use profanity instead of logic. I don't think one can have logic without knowledge. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER. If you have enough knowledge and information about a particular subject, you can analyze it, perceive it in a different way than someone that does not have any knowledge about that subject. The one who doesn't have knowledge uses profanity because he can't figure things out.
