Why Is America Such A Religious Country - The Atheist Experience #612

Teaching kids HOW to think is difficult when they enter the educational system already having been told WHAT to think at home.
I want you to imagine the typical theist caller to the atheist experience, and imagine how you teach such a person HOW to think. Even if you could make headway on HOW to think about how to find out what is true for unrelated topics, as soon as you return to "god" or "evolution" or what-have-you, they just throw all that learning out and cling to dogmatic nonsense.

In the USA the pastor - preacher is an educated hypocrite -business man who tells his sheeple what makes them comfortable. The previous generation of hypocritical clergy had undermined education something they do now for the next generation.
All these naïve people give the clergy immense political power, the only thing standing in their way is the constitution and that is why they want it trashed, some day they will succeed.
They are traitors not patriotic.

Traci doesn't get it. The religious demagogues who want to break down the wall of separation DO want to repress religion--other than their own, that is. They want, ultimately, to be the official religion, and be able to dictate government policy. This is what they mean by "we are a Christian Nation".

i´m from a country relatively similar to u.s.a. (Argentina), with a colonial pass, indepence and civil wars, and 90+% of European population (second and third generation mostly).
and we have a completely different view of religion. more laicistic and less apologetic... i´ve never understood why the u.s.a. are full of fanatic people...

The point Tracy is making around 4:30 is a very valid argument against government in general. Once you cede power and control of ANY kind to an abstract entity that is above its own laws, and directed by dubious people with political agendas, you become that much more a slave of the state.

@notnilccm Oh, I totally agree that many of the great thinkers that contributed to our foundation saw the atrocities in the christian religion. I was just pointing out why I thought we were such a "religious" nation. It is undoubtedly time for the myth to end, just because our ancestors were led to believe these fairy tails does not mean we must.

@Seraph821 Keep in mind the founding of this country was pre Darwin. Even so, here is what a few of them said; “I do not find in orthodox Christianity one redeeming feature.”Jefferson “The way to see by faith is to shut the eye of reason.”Franklin “Religious bondage shackles and debilitates the mind and unfits it for every noble enterprise.”Madison“ The Christian system of religion is an outrage on common sense.”Paine. Let the myth go away!

@HJKHJHJHGLJK Most voters don't understand the difference between political parties except they have different names.

@atheist2688 I find that most teachers just don't give a shit about what our nations kids know.
-
Most of the founders of the country were religious, as were most of the people of the colonies turned states. I think that the way our country is currently is the result of hundreds upon hundreds of years of parent teaching child, teaching child, teaching child, and on and on, to completely accept religion x (usually some form of christianity), ever since the founding of our country.
I think its because the US educational systems teaches too many kids what to think instead of how to think.

Because bible belt evangelicals have lobbying power to corrupt science lessons with tales of noahs ark and creationism. It should be a law across the world that religious beliefs and values are not allowed to be drilled into the minds of impressionable children, they are not allowed to vote until they are 18 because it is deemed that they will not be able to fully appreciate the differences between political parties, why are parents allowed to stop children being taught the facts of evolution?
