The Ronnie Drew Group who later changed their name to The Dubliners singing The Leaving of Liverpool from a programme called Ballad Sheet 1963.

Farewell to Princes' landing stage River fare thee well
I am bound for California, a place I know right well

So fare thee well my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But my darling when I think of thee

I am bound for California by way of stormy Cape Horn
And I will write to thee a letter, love, when I am homeward bound

So fare thee well my own true love
When I return united we will be
It's not the leaving of Liverpool that grieves me
But my darling when I think of thee

I've shipped on a Yankee clipper ship, "Davy Crockett" is her name
And Burgess is the captain of her and they say that she's a floating hell

  • Ronnie,

we spent many good times together. Say Hi to my Dad Bob Lynch and tell him I love him soooooo much. Keep on playing, God will love the Dubliners.

    God Bless

    Robert W Lynch.

  • And while we're at it let's remember Bob Lynch (the forgotten Dubliner) who featured singing with Ronnie in that clip and who left this world in tragic circumstances in 1983 and also the great Ciaran Burke (on tin whistle). RIP.

  • Is it me, or is this video not excluding a couple of verses? Great addition btw :D thanks anyway

  • @gordinhurox - Bob Lynch died by his own hand on October 2nd, 1982.

  • @machree01 Oh Ok thank you

  • @CMLPaddY , I think you are right. They are THINNER back then, and therefore their features are shown, rather than buried in chubbiness like modern days. Also, please note that this is in black and white that covers up a lot of zits, blotches, red eyes, etc.

  • There is another wonderful segment of this show here on YouTube, where Seamus Ennis (seen in the crowd) performs An Poc Ar Buile, where he is joined by The Dubs. Great stuff, hard to believe it's almost 50 years ago.

  • Shame about Bob Lynch, I loved his voice.

  • Wonderful, there isn't that much stuff with Bob Lynch so thanks for this video.

  • @gordinhurox luke was in some other group which was around the same time of when bobby lynch was in the ronniew drew group so i'm sure as hell it's not luke kelly
