  • well at least this one isnt in pain...im guessing they actually used anaesthesia? well done :)

  • @markmywords53 Normally this tradition only held around school holiday, around November and December. If you wish to come here, please inform me, maybe I can assist you about this culture.

  • @asyadi84 I think it is a wonderful tradition and I would love to see it being performed this way. Unfortunately it is a long way for me to travel, but I would like to visit one day.

  • @markmywords53 yup..but nowadays most of malaysian parents are very opened. normally the kids was told by their parents why they need to cut. It is part of our culture and religion. Good, if you want to research about our culture, why not you come here and see the traditional way..It still exist but normally in rural area...

  • @asyadi84 I think it is cheating to use spray anesthesia, because people think that the boy is enduring the full pain whereas it is actually reduced by the anesthetic. Maybe not all fathers beat their sons if they show fear or pain during the cutting, but I have a Malaysian friend whose father told him this is what would happen if he was cowardly, so maybe the threat is used to prevent such behavior? No, I am not Malaysian.

  • @markmywords53 hmm...maybe, but I think most of tok mudim using spray anesthesia and applied it before the process. Long time ago, they need take cold bath in the river before come for this ritual. In Malay, we are not "beat" the child who cries when cutting, but we try to persuade the boy to be strength during the process.

    Mark, are you Malaysian?

  • @asyadi84 I suspect that he is feeling pain, but he is being brave, and now crying out. I know in some communities if a boy cries during circumcision he is beaten harshly and repeatedly by his father, so maybe that is why he is not being weak.

  • @markmywords53 yup...but why boy not crying or feel pain? normally boy will feel the pain if cut without anesthesia...

  • @asyadi84 It is much better without anesthesia. It is a test of the boy's bravery.
