@deejin25 In Wado it is essential not to view this as a technique you would use in a real situation - Wado has no blocks and utilises body evasion, and the tanto is more an extension of the arm to encourage better body evasion and better timing. Also this is a formal exercise, in essence a two-man kata, for mental training as much as anything.

This technique is good against a punch or kick but a knife will easily redirect and stab or cut you because the knife is left in the hand of the attacker when you counter. the ability of the atemi to paralyse the arm is limited, it won't work enough of the time. I'd change the tecchnique to include trapping, grabbing or double tapping the arm to either control the knife, disarm, or make the knife drop before doing the follow throughs, which are very good.
