Although much of this is true, it is imperative that one is careful with how the stats are presented. Those who have their convictions overturned may not be factually innocent but in fact get their convictions quashed on a technicality (though still factually guilty). There is a distinguishable difference between 'miscarriages of justice' and 'wrongful conviction of the innocent' and the latter are those who need to be compensated. They should not be thrown into the same category of stats.
Yes but anybody can sign witness forms. Should witness testimony be enought to convict? Certainly not. You need DNA, fingerprints, blood and hair samples.
But now police officers and prosecutors convict someone just because a witness said they did it. How can you prove they are telling the truth?
Excellent clip with a very strong message. Well done on highlighting that miscarriages of justice actually do happen. Some people dont want to believe that police can and do tell lies, that evidence is held back or tampered with, that witnesses and those accused are threatened to sign statements, anything to get a conviction. The torment suffered by the innocent, is something I would'nt wish on my worst enemy. On release their nightmare continues, due to the lack of support available.
