Doing a critique of someones work is definitely not the easiest thing in the world to do. You do not want to be overly critical but you don't want to just say "I like it, I don't like it".

This weeks Critique was interesting as the images were all over the place. We had people pictures to flower shots to lighting and cars. I think my feedback on these images will really help the photographer out. I do not mean any of this criticism to come across mean in any way.

I feel the only way for us all to get better is to keep learning and seeing how we can improve our work.

  • @JaredPolin what if he would go selective color on the kids eyes (the one with ribbon) would that be better?

  • @krqkan it does come down to personal preference. Where I may not personally like it the client may really dig it and thats all that matters.

  • Nice Video Jared! :)

  • @Sh0rtyH20 ha sounds like echo to me.

  • Good critique Jared. Your analysis of people's photos helps us all I think. I've been in some similar situations to images that you have critiqued in the past and it helps to know how to work in those situations because of what I've heard from you. Keep up the goodness. Peace.

  • @love2lu great its good to get that critique of my own video so thank you.

  • I totally agree, spot color is extremely amateur-ish. I've noticed a ton of beginner photographers in the past doing the whole spot color thing when they get their first editing software. And there's now way on this earth that spot color wins over RAW editing. Because one's a gimmick and the others not.

  • When the picture goes into photoshop you loose lens model information.

  • not an "oober doober" ...

    lol

  • @Richydudeman Thanks

  • @chaseaustinmiller614 First off you need a tripod. Then you have to take 3(or more) shots of the scene with 3 different exposures. One overexposed, one correctly exposed and one underexposed. Then you blend all those differently exposed images together to create an HDR image. There are lots of different programs that will do that for you but I recommend that you do it manually if you want your image to not look like shit.

  • like this video a lo Jared. just getting back into photography and discovered your stuff. have ordered a Nikon J1 so may send in some stuff once I have got used to it. great channel with honest opinions which is so refreshing. also liked the small frame thingy (?) you used to compose the pictures during the critique is there any place i can get me one of those?
