@shazzboy One of the terrific aspects of the new Battlestar Galactica for me was that the writers dispensed with the whole aliens-of-the-week plots. Be it alien spaceships or civilizations on planets,it never came up.So I agree with you on Earth 2's refreshing premise of having them trek across this unknown world & eschewing certain sf tropes we've seen so often in many other TV series.I'm open to that. However,I did not find the scripts terribly compelling as the show unfolded.

The trudging across the planet is what I found fascinating. I wouldnt want to see big battles, drastic changes or over the top plots. The gradual discovery of the planet as they travelled is what was exciting. Im sick of sci-fi series where they visit a planet for 5min, discover 1 thing about then leave.
It was good having one where people lived long term and discovered as they went along.

I was looking forward to Earth 2 very much when it first premiered. Spielberg produced, excellent production values & FX,terrific cast. Ultimately it sunk into slow, dull episodes each week as the series went on. Watching them trudge across the planet grew quickly boring. Stayed with the show for all of its episodes hoping it would pick up & become a compelling drama. Alas,it never did.

It's the future, it was probably some type of micro fusion bomb or something similar to the ship's propulsion system so on one was suspect a bomb had destroyed the ship.
