During the Plastination conference 2011 Dr. Gunther von Hagens announced that he steps down from developing plastination techniques and hands over to the next generation. The inventor of plastination, well known through his Bodyworlds exhibitions, could only speak for a few seconds due to his Parkinson´s disease and overwhelmed with emotions. His son read the manuscript for him. Later during the plastination conference Gunther von Hagens recovered, being able to comment on various technical plastination issues and even participating in one of the workshops.
