And if the German soldier was not a Christian "brother", I guess the homicide wouldnt evoke the same feeling of repugnance :D At least, it would be easier, 'cuz you wouldnt have to endure to see him face to face in Heaven... right? Disgusting.
@wiljoro What people are taught and what the Geneva convention says should be followed, is often ignored in war. In his preamble he pointed out there was no way of taking or dealing with prisoners.
This is the first time, after so fully appreciating Tony's wisdom and compassion over many years, that I have ever been disappointed by Tony. First, I question the veracity of the story in the first place. 2nd, this would be considered to be a violation of the laws of war. 3rd, this is not what U.S. servicemen are been taught. This was a cheap shot and does not serve the cause of peace and justice well. I am disappointed because the integrity of Tony's teaching just got a ding.
I agree with BeulahLips. The original followers of Jesus were powerless, as history shows. Christians in Britain are not powerless and it would be ungodly to sit back and allow "Christian" Nazi soldiers to murder millions of innocent Jews, gypsies and "undesirables" having any kind of abnormality. If it was you or your own family about to be shot by some criminal, you are within your legal & moral rights to shoot first defensively. The same principle should extend to protecting others.
I might add to the end, you also must forget, that there was a great difference here in this story.... that in the case of the Christian German, you are fighting for Nazism to win in order that your government might continue to slaughter Christians and Jews and others... by the millions.... you forget that your leaders goal was to completely finish the "Jewish problem" by wiping each one of them off the earth. Yes, you're right....you forget a lot of things.
Some interesting ideas in the comments here but unfortunately none of them have anything to do with following the teachings of Jesus.
