IFI's David E. Smith was invited to speak at two tea parties on April 15, 2010 -- one in Joliet and one in downtown Chicago. The tea party movement has encouraged countless Americans to wake up and get engaged in the political process, from voting to holding officials accountable. Plus, with the healthcare "reform" bill and other bills that President Barack Obama and Congress have just passed, Americans are now paying over $670 billion in new taxes, many of which impact the middle-class and break one of the President's primary campaign promises (no increase in taxes for families making under $250,000).
One example from the list of 25 new taxes is a brand new annual tax on health insurance, which will cost Americans over $60 billion over the next ten years. Even in the midst of this bad news, we are seeing that this year is truly a turning point for our country, and we want to encourage Americans stay involved and informed on the political process! Now is a good time to make your voice heard, and especially in the voting booth in November!
