This is a more compact day and night detector. Taking advantage of the wide range of light values that flowers will stay planted in, the construction can be kept at the same level indefinitely.

  • It doesn't seem to work for me... do you know if being on a chunk boundary affects whether the block updates? For me I have to manually place and remove a light source for the flower/ mushroom to die...

Or maybe something an update means that it no longer works?

I've not used this detector in a while, but I loaded this world up and it does seem to not work any more. To be specific, I think flowers can survive in less light than before. I do not currently have a fix for this design

  • @Smapla Ah ok. Thanks very much for your quick reply. I'll try and figure out a way around this.

Upon further investigation, it seems that while flowers can just 'barely' survive in, lets say light level x (so a flower in lightness level x-1 would uproot) the flower will not uproot when night comes. this is very puzzling because the patch the flower is on is indeed darker than it was in the day. Essentially, it seems impossible to detect night time with flowers. very disappointing.

  • I guess I never explained what that white wool around 4:30 was about. It was just to show the path the light from the torch takes to get to the flower.

  • You're trying to control water with redstone and doors? I'm not sure exactly what you mean, because water doesn't flow through doors. It is possible to control water with redstone but it's very complicated and the machine to do this in a repeatable manner requires some attention when logging in and out. If you want to control water you'd probably be best off waiting until pistons are integrated into the game (though since we know the basics of how they will work you can start planning now

Flowers which are under a single block and thus in slight shade will uproot during the night. Flowers in direct moonlight will not urpoot

  • @Smapla Flowers uproot in light level 8 or lower.

  • @Smapla

    Wow, that's genius! xD

  • @Smapla OK, thanks. It was going to kinda serve as a base defence also because there aren't tides in minecraft it could make a base really unique =).
