I remember very well the old WWII barracks at Fort Lenard Wood. I went through basic training there in 1965 and AIT and lived in them. The smell from coal fires was thick in the air, and cause a lot of health problems. There was no installation in the walls, and it was not uncommon to weak up with snow drifts on your bunk.
Its cool the Army saved these old buildings and made them a museum. I lived in barracks exactly like this at Ft. Leonard Wood back in the early 1970's. Those open toilets were really amazing. Took me 5 days before I could finally get myself to take a dump in front of everybody. I have been to FLW a couple times since my army days. Next time I travel by I will make sure to see this WW2 museum.
Excellent video. This was the standard type of barracks for basic training at Fort Jackson and many other posts during the Vietnam War. Thanks for the video!
We had barracks like this when I went to boot camp in Ft Leonard wood in 1985

They probably converted one of the buildings to a museum. I stayed in these barracks for reception in 2001. They might still be used for all I know.
