I unfortunately don't get to practice this very often due to the extremely high volume it plays at. Not exactly appropriate for the apartment dweller! It's really best played along with drums (the more the better) and outdoors, but I like the way it sounds in my parent's bathroom. :)

And a side note: I think I mangled the reed a bit right before I sat down to play! So some of the notes in the upper range sound a bit off to me from what I'm used to hearing come out of it.

  • where can you get a zurna

  • @Batista625 I've seen cheap ones on Amazon and eBay but I don't think they're very good (including mine). Though I don't know where to get a good Turkish Zurna or Egyptian Mizmar there are several places to get good quality Armenian Zurna online. Just check out the sites selling pro Duduk and they usually offer Zurna as well for about $300 US. I'd like to one day get one of those.

  • whats that tip thing that holds the read that has a big circular disk-like thing on it? and where can I buy it?

  • I noticed it on pro models and so just copied the size and made one out of cardboard (the disk). It helps for bracing your lips against it so you can maintain a seal around the staple (the metal tube the reed is on). It helps a lot, especially as your lips start getting tired!

  • got any tips for a beginner? and may I ask how long have you been playing the Zurna?

  • I don't really play it very much due to reed problems but I've had it for a couple years. Wish I could practice it more (or at all) but it's too noisy for my apartment community most days.

  • nothing like a sound of a zurna

  • for all those rednecks who EVERY SINGLE FUKING TIME comment shlt about each other because of their nationality...I have a message....go FU*K YOURSELVES !

  • sounds sick. Maybe get a small room and put loads of sound proofing (i forget the name, the soft white foam they put fruit in) and practice loads in that

  • @SovieTiko310

I am not a Turk, nor will I suck it.

Just take a breather, m'kay? This is the internet, little can be taken seriously here.

  • @Vovk3 You obviously care enough to respond you dirty fucking Turk. suck my dick

  • @SovieTiko310

Nobody cares what you think, bitch.

  • @Batista625

If you ever go t Turkey, you can find them in bazzars for cheap.

  • I'll trade u tips then!

to play with less noise, put ur lips ON the end of the reed and play, it should make a sound with less noise, if it's still noisy, move your lips on the reed more, when playing the reed might tickle your lips due to the vibration.
