The Tall Ships left Hartlepool on the 10th of August 2010. They sailed to the estuary of the Tees, and then headed along the North East coast, past the Headland to Blackhall Rocks.
The whole point is, if the ships were under sail, they would be travelling at different speeds, so they could only put up a token amount of sail to maintain station on each other. There was 59 ships in a relatively small area so safety had to take priority over spectacle.

shame most of them couldn't be bothered with sails, the whole point of tall ships!
