Interesting... I use olive oil in my hair about once a week. I saturate my hair with it, then put it up and sleep on it. Its something i've been doing since before I went no-poo, and I find that the baking soda solution gets the oil out just fine for me. My hair tends to be a bit more oily the next day, but it only really gets noticable later into the evening. I found that using a bit less of the vinegar rinse when washing the oil out makes a difference in how oily my hair is the next day.
Ok, well, I had a hair coloring disaster over the past 2 days & I was desperate. So, I tried the olive oil..trick is..you aren't supposed to glop it on! I only used maybe a tsp, poured a tiny bit in my hand, rubbed it between my palms, lightly touched my hair all over, & really worked it in. I left it on for a couple of hours..I then took maybe a pea size amount of shampoo & lightly rubbed that in to get most out.....it did a GREAT JOB!
I went through the EXACT experience! damn olive oil -_-
it was like 3 months since i used shampoo, then in the winter my scalp was irritated and dry. So i used olive oil ( thinking baking soda alone would get rid of it... or vinegar) too moisture the scalp with it did, but at a huge cost.
But now half a year on .. shampoo hasnt touched my scalp since ... scalp condition has improved HUGELY! warm/hot water only(:
