Guatemala destroyed over 500,000 acres of Maya Nut forests to plant sugarcane. The Equilibrium Fund's goal is to convince the plantation owners that it is cost-effective to restore Maya Nut forests, revitalize Guatemala's economy and re-establish functional ecosystems.

  • ok lady, good points. but what would you rather people do? sure the forest are great to have, but what about america dumping tons of aluminum onto people and land? at least guatemala is doing it in about as natural way that can be done. further, for some reason i feel like you still consume sugar. unless you never eat anywhere but your own home and food. what about the florida marsh lands that are turned into sugar fields?

  • It's really sad that the Guatemalan farmers destroyed so much rain forest to grow sugar cane.

And what's the result? More junk food that will make Americans even fatter, more cases of diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer and heart disease.

What's the name of the plant you want to grow? Growing a native crop would be a vast improvement over sugar. I wish you and your team bountiful success :)

  • hahaha good try trying to make sugar cane look evil..failed..

  • Why are the trucks horrible? The crop itself will consume far more CO2 than the "horrible trucks" used to haul them away. Once the farmers get a taste of the mad cash from sugar they will be able to purchase goods and services from the US. Every successful farmer in Guatemala should be able to achieve their dream of a Dodge Ram 3500 diesel. STOP trying to crush their dreams. If there was something more profitable to grow they would be doing it. They have no interest in "dignified income."
