Natalie Merchant's Beloved wife put to the film About Schmidt starring Jack Nicholson.

You were the love
for certain of my life
you were simply my beloved wife
I don't know for certain
how I'll live my life
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife

I can't believe
I've lost the very best of me

you were the love
for certain of my life
you were simply my beloved wife
I don't know for certain
how I'll live my life
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife

I can't believe
I've lost the very best of me

you were the love
for certain of my life
for 50 years simply my beloved wife
with another love I'll never lie again
it's you I can't deny
it's you I can't defy
a depth so deep
into my grief
without my beloved soul
I renounce my life
as my right
now alone without my beloved wife
my beloved wife

my beloved wife
my love is gone she suffered long
in hours of pain
my love is gone
now my suffering begins
my love is gone
would it be wrong if I should
surrender all the joy in my life
go with her tonight?

my love is gone she suffered long
in hours of pain
my love is gone
would it be wrong if I should
just turn my face away from the light
go with her tonight?

  • Thank you for the intellectual quality of your well thought out and considered comment. "hurrrr...durrrr" is something I can easily imagine you muttering during the more lucid moments of your existence. Lay off the GnR head-banging it is beginning to ebb away at the old brain matter my friend

  • I'm 25. Do I want my life end like this ?

    Depressing.

  • lets say you meet someone, get married, have kids and grow old together? that means u have a 50/50 chance of being the one left behind after your partner dies... depressing yes - but its life and it happends everyday

  • Talk about rubbing salt in a wound Natalie. What are you doing to me? This song practically says " Go off yourself." (Maybe that's why I love it.) Your just to much baby.

  • What is sadder: spending your life loving someone else (at the price of being parted eventually) or living without having such a love and love in return?

    I have no doubt.

    Marco, 37, married.

  • Thank You, I have just lost my soul mate, best friend, my lover and my wife, eighty days from today. Believe me this is a life experience everyone one day will have, like it or not. You will not enjoy it or grasp it with your fist and may it go away. You will not embrace it and make everything ok. It will grab a hold of you relentlessly like nothing you have ever experienced and there is nothing you can do about it because we love!

    That was beautiful.

    Jim & Susan RIP

  • @daveoxton Sadly enough this is also beautiful. How love and life come together with what we are and what we do in this world. We are not much, and love shows ou you don't need to be much, all you needs is a partner, a friend that understands you and knows you, a whitness for your week and wise moments, that makes life all worthy and makes death seem nothing, or everything when she is not there for you. I rell like this song, because it tells you to face love and life, and care about those 2.

  • Very touching. C'mon Jack, you just need to get out more, and meet new people. Think Square Dance, Poker with the guys, Church groups, anything! Just get out of the house. You can do it. I'm pulling for you.
