Results of meeting with President Calderon about Violence Against Women in Mexico

From http://www.witness.org | On March 27, 2009 WITNESS staff, Peter Gabriel (our co-founder), Diego Luna, Saul Hernandez of the band Jaguares, Patricia Cervantes (mother of Neyra Cervantes who was disappeared and murdered in Chihuahua in 2003) and our partners at the Comision Mexicana de Defensa y Promocion de Derechos Humanos met with President Felipe Calderon of Mexico to urge increased attention on the ongoing issue of violence against women along the U.S./ Mexico border.

This is a short video update from two WITNESS staff members about the outcomes of the meeting as well as press conference that preceded the meeting.

What if the president, the minister of interior, and the attorney general already know the primary people responsible for the murders? What if the authorities are just laughing at all of us? It's like Pedro Paramo in 2009 -- mutilating young girls b/c they think it's fun, then rounding up other poor people to take the blame. What if everyone already knows the culprit?
