Sailing our Island Packet 35 in semi-rough conditions. Georgetown to Rudder Cut Cay. 15kt winds were forecast, but we actually got 30kt winds instead.

  • Love it. Good video and a goodly length. That last few minutes is great.

    Two things--

1- Does that depth gauge really say 10.4 FEET? --I hope that's under the keel!

2- You'd probably pick up another knot and a half by taking down the drag chute-- I mean air brake-- I mean heel enhancer-- I mean: Bimini top!

  • @DianaOfBurlington Thanks for the comments, Diana. The water there was so deep that my depth sounder lost contact with the bottom. When that happens, it will usually just stick on a random number somewhere. As for the bimini, I'd be awfully surprised if striking it would add 1/4kt of boatspeed, let alone 1.5kt. Regardless, it's awfully functional. Gotta keep it.

  • When did you do this sail and was this to Florida?

  • @gjinc2 This was in April 2009. We sailed from George Town up to Rudder Cut Cay that day.

  • like the prayer flags

  • @lowcountrydawg2525: wow. I didn't know a depth-finder would do that. Mine just stays on 300 (actually 299, its max reading). Amazing that the water there was SO deep! --it looks more like 12 or 15 ft in some places.

I never had much use for a bimini and am not including one on the newly-restored boat; only a fixed-frame dodger on which the canvas can be rolled down.
