In his speech at the dedication ceremony for the TACC Ranger supercomputer, Sun CEO Jonathan Schwartz outlines how the system will transform computational science.
Ranger is the most powerful supercomputing system in the world for open science research. The system was dedicated by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) at The University of Texas at Austin on February 22, 2008.
Sun supplied the hardware architecture for the machine, which is a cluster of many computers spread over more than 80 racks of computing space. Two Sun high-speed switches tie the whole thing together into a single computer that takes up about 4,500 square feet of floor space.
Like the laugh at 2:40 "..flawless execution.."
:D ... hehe but I'm proud to be part of this from SUN though.. turned out to be exceptional in the end.
