  • It really is a tragedy to look at a rust belt, no matter if it's in Pennsylvania, the English Midlands, on The Clyde, Woolloongong or Dublin. There is something seriously wrong when we no longer value the people who actually make things and yet we lionise those who profit from shuffling bits of paper.

  • Well, the song sounds good and IS symbolic of the real "Allentowns".

  • I like this better than the Billy Joel video with the creepy dancers.

  • I grew up in Youngstown OH and I just shared this with my parents. These scenes are identical to what Youngstown went through. The boom-bust cycles of demand created by extraneous factors like wars can both make and break a local economy, even once-booming steel cities like Allentown and Youngstown. We witnessed the pain of what happens when the bills come due. No infinite borrowing or bailouts for these cities when the demand simply dries up, but we love them still. Thank you, steelers!

  • I was born in 1994 was I not born in the right time?

  • Not Dublin or Woolloongong

    It's Allentown

  • @userunavailable3095 We have an old '26 Mack AC out in California. It is very well made. Hand-crank, 40 horsepower, lots of low-end torque, and, of course, made with Bethlehem steel.

  • First, if you saw the video-he is fairly accurate in what he sings(well besides the fact it was about Bethkehem). Watched a portion ofthePBS documentary assome in the unions spoke about showers and sometimes having your buddy clean your back-when I checked theoriginal video--to that detail-Billy Joel did a god job. Just wanderingwhen are they going tomake a song anddocumentary about A and B Meats(whom my dad drove for but from time to time with a different trucking company- drovefor B. Steel

  • @CamaroAmx I'm thrilled to hear they are still there. I can remember going past Mack every time we went out to my grandparents house out in Alburtis when I was a kid. We used to call that "corn canyon" because that farmer that surrounded Mack always planted his corn right up to the edge of the road. My grandparents both owned an Allen Organ, and owned stock in Allen Organ.

  • @userunavailable3095 Mack is still building trucks there. They almost moved 2 years ago, but ended up staying. I think Allen Organs is still building organs there, but I'm not sure. Allen organs also has a musem (sp) on the premises. Allen Organs and Mack are next to each other. The industeral park was Jandl Farms when I was growing up. They rerouted 100 as well. I work in the industeral park.

  • @CamaroAmx Are they still building the trucks and organs there? Or is it just the headquarters that are there?

  • @userunavailable3095 Mack Truck & Allen Organs are still in Macungie. A freind of mine works at mack trucks and anther freind is married to the son of the owners of Allen Organs. Theres an industrial park up the road (RT100) that has shipping warehouses for Home Depot, Firestone and others. Theres also a Sam Adams Brewery there. Allentown has some nicer spots but most of it is thrash, Bethlehem is the same. Theres is a Sands casino there now. Parts of it were used in filiming Transformers 1 & 2.
