In this speech, Tommy was debating the Liberal bill to have the federal government renege on $80 million in funds committed to the provinces for Medicare improvements. This cutback was part of Trudeaus restraint package that he infamously introduced after chatting with Helmut Schmidt at G-8. In his speech Tommy not only attacked the cutback but gives an overview of the history of Medicare. He then spoke about what remains to be done in Medicare in its second stage including matters like prescription drugs and glasses.

  • @RutherfordUnperson The modern welfare state is unsustainable, it will end as we know it, just look at Greece. Your opinion or my opinion won't matter one bit. Economics always trumps politics, just ask the Soviets.

Why look at the American system of health care, there are dozens of countries that do it better than we do. Germany for example, there are more than just two countries in the world.

  • @Seraphim727 If you have long lines there is something drastically wrong with your system, for example the line ups for food in the Soviet days. There are no Canadian style lines ups in Germany which has the private parallel system we are told is evil. Even Cuba now has private hospitals which are used to generate revenue for their public system. If that is not too extreme right wing for the Cuba communists maybe it shouldn't be for us.

  • @yukoncornileus4 I am sure wealthy individuals cross over to America to go to a fancy American hospital. IF you didn't notice, money talks a lot in America. And hospitals will bump you to the front of the line if you can give a handsome donation. In Canada people who are dying are bumped to the front... In America people who give big fat checks are bumped to the front. Do you see a problem?

  • @yukoncornileus4 "How moral is it to have you citizens die in waiting lists"

Name one. I can name Americans who die who don't even get ONTO "waiting lists". Look up Deamonte Driver sometime--how "moral" was his death?--and you'll understand why we'll never give up Medicare in Canada.

  • Aw, Tommy, wish you were still with us. The country never needed you more.

  • @morklind Yes I can't possibly be Canadian because we all know there is only one way all Canadians think, and then throw in some anti-Americanism, you are such a stereo-type. Canadians cross the border all the time. How moral is it to have you citizens die in waiting lists and refuse them the ability to use there own means. Supreme Court has said it is not moral at all. There are more than two countries in the world! Why the hell can't we look at the nations doing better than us, all 34 of them.

  • @yukoncornileus4 Your are either an american or an ignorant muppet (mmm..is that the same thing?). Cross the border and see how much better it is. A national health service is MORAL. Its objective however clumsy is its attempts at perfection is still MORAL. What the US has is SICK, instigated by Nixon for profiteers and not for its people. You judge a nation from how it treats its poor.

You have nothing to contribute. Keep flicking the remote Bubba

  • We have the 35 th best healthcare system in the world thanks to clowns like this, why are you all cheering, is this really something to be proud of, 34 countries do it better !!! People get you head out of your ass. No one is copying our Soviet styled system. Don't say its because we don't spent enough money, we are in the top 5 for spending. Their are more countries in the world than Canada and USA. Canada needs to think.

  • A great man. Unlike Americans who file for bankurtpcy as they can't pay their medical bills (65% of thtem!), in Canadian 0% (zero) percent of Canadians have to file for bankruptcy cause they can't afford their kids' operation. Single-payer Universal Healthcare is a right, not a profit-driven privilege as in America. And its costs 1/3 less in Canada than in Obamacare America! God bless this man Tommy Douglas...he should be exported to Washington to teach Barack some lessons!

  • exhibit A: disasemble and destruction of Canada by the beuracrats, proof NWO has had its hands in the destruction of Canada for a very long time. to spend 250 million on pulp and paper welfare only to try and cancel its obligations to the provinces...NWO agents have been medling and destroying Canada for a very long time.
