@Courtfab21 Part of where the liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen had a broken seal from a fault Solid Rocket Booster because they launched after the vehicle had frozen overnight. It caused pressurized hot gas to get into the hydrogen and that is a bomb basically below them. Once the hot gas gets in the there is no hope.

@CITANSWK559 Yea, since one of the engineers who worked with the contracting company for the rocket boosters found an error. He even begged to the review committee the night before to stop the launch.

...no, it was the Columbia that went down in February 1... my 30th birthday. Just googled the date too. I remember waking up in a motel in Memphis one morning to the alarm radio playing Stevie Wonder's "Ribbon in the Sky" with a tribute some weeks later.

Oh my gosh I thought this was about the one that exploded February 1, 2003! I remember them having a Punky Brewster episode about this (shoot, it make me tear up remembering little Punky returning home early from school in tears galore). Honestly, it makes me wonder if they should just lay these outerspace missions to rest. I hate the thought of more deaths because people left the security of the earth's atmosphere. :*
We won't forget.
