@EveDonovan yeah. But what would be wrong with filming it where it really happened? where the book really took place? I'm sure in the winter the owners of the ingalls homestead would let someone film a movie there. They aren't open in the winter any way. If they wouldn't want that, there is plenty of other places in good 'ol South Dakota that are just acres of prairie land that would work great for it. I know, if I owned land I would let them :)

Surprised to hear her comment about Michael's "choice" to blow up the town. I'm sure it was very sad, but Landon really didn't have much choice. He was contractually obligated to return the acres to their original state after the show was over. It was either blow it up or bulldoze it. It was going to be sad no matter what; there was nothing Landon could really do about it.
@1480mathias, yeah, that could be what she meant. I guess she said it in such a regretful tone that it was hard to tell.
