Thanks for telling the story. What can I say...poor fella. Fact is, its hard to tell what will happen in a relationship 10 years down the road. A lot of it is the control issue for sure. Live together, respect each others views, and move on.

How does smoking bring disaster on a family? You really don't know the ill effects of smoking? cancer? heart disease? reduced immune systems? bad teeth? bad skin? destroyed senses of smell and taste? not just on the smoker, but everyone in the family?

@BattleshipTx Yes, that's absolutely correct which why I recall when I met my wife, I warned her that although I promised to love her, cherish her, and take out the garbage every day, my existence would bring disaster upon her. But of course, what I decided to do... was "bring disaster upon her", because that's how selfish I am. To love me is to suffer.

No, I am well aware of their effects, just as I am aware of the witch hunt going on against smokers. It's an unattractive and unwise habit, yes, but unfortunately it is very difficult to stop. Vilifying them is not going to help, encouraging nicotine reduction through certain therapies will. You're being inane.
