@Hosam8112 TA152H01 is on the money: the male is built for war, not for hunt. The female is an awesome fighter, but the hyenas are just too many. The strategy of having a huge male specimen to fend off invaders is brilliant.

@Hosam8112 Actually, males can hunt, but females can't fight. Put five female against a pack of hyenas, and they get their asses kicked and either run or hide. Send a single male, and the hyenas run. That's his job. He defends. The lionesses hunt. He can't spend his time hunting all the time, when females can perform that task. He has to defend the territory, which they can't do.
