Jim Kelly performing his own work: "Blessings, First and Lasting" and "Farewell" at a World AIDS Day Celebration on 12/1/2010 in Los Angeles. Introduced by Craig Lawver. Text below.
First and Lasting Blessings
I wandered in the wilderness
To hone my human Heart
And Tongue to taste with tenderness
The tip of Cupid's dart;
In Love to fall
For good and all
Upon one Blessed night;
To sense what singers say forsooth,
Of Love upon first sight.
I saw, He conquered
Soon my soul;
We came both to delight
And bask beneath
The balmy breezes
Breathing "All is right".
Too soon, alas,
It came to pass
Upon one fateful day
That He had spent His share of Life
(It grieves me yet to say);
He lay aside both Love and strife
And passed no more this way.
An angels' choir
My Heart's Desire
Has summoned to His rest,
And though He's gone
A decade on...
I yet
by Him
am Blessed.
11/7/2008 Farewell
Farewell to arms entwined each night
To bind our rest together;
Farewell to bliss and kiss and sight
Of Thee, my dear, forever.
No more the anchor of thy soul
Weighing on me nightly,
Mooring me from storm and shoal,
Harboring me tightly;
No more shall tender touch awake
Nor send again to slumber;
No more shall we sweet loving make
For now we sleep asunder.
I may find peace, I may have joy
Perchance, mayhap a lover,
But I shan't hold my darling boy
Until Death's night be over.
Farewell to arms entwined each night
To bind our rest together;
Farewell to bliss and kiss and sight
Of Thee, dear one, forever.
