This video is for GlassBirdHouse on PS, who was asking about proper intramuscular (quadriceps) injection technique/advice. Discussed: Why to buy quality syringes; Why to only stick once; needle gauges vs. injection viscosity; Luer-Lok; Assembly; technique; aspiration; resistance of subcutaneous tissue versus arriving at muscle; aspiration; pressure post-injection.
*Using one hand was hard! I withdrew my needle a bit when aspirating; stabilize the barrel of the syringe with your other hand when aspirating!*
*I didn't say this but inject perpendicular to the muscle*

  • @Uncivilization: One can go slow if one prefers, but many patients struggle most with piercing the surface of the skin -- this is where the major nociceptive potential resides. Going slow or fast is more a matter of preference. :)

  • @thaumatology:

I am not currently taking IM meds (only IV now & I have a central line so no needles need apply! Yay!), but yes, I've used the " Z" site rotation method before. I made this video for a friend who was just starting IM injections & asked for some technique advice & reassurance. Be well! Xoxox

  • Wouldn't stab, go slow. If you stab and hit a nerve you'll know about it at least slow you haves chance to react

  • do you ever z-track?

  • @SessanDydland I hope so! :) Much love, sweetheart! <3
