its not a 2 stroke.

it does not need "back pressure" per se.

thats what an exhaust valve and spring are for. with headers and collectors you'd help your scavenging and make some more power. Or a blower.

@thejodeler Was it so that Merlin was equipped with mechanical supercharger (and Meteor not?) cause that supercharger for airborne applications needed boost to compensate thin air at high altitudes? On other half, tank couldn't use as powerful "tune", as cooling was very big problem.

Something is seriously 'sick' with that engine. No engine should be that hard to start.
