  • Wells won this event 4 years later, his best wind assisted 100 was 10 flat at the Scottish Championship in 1979 at Grangemouth.

In 1982 in the 200 Commonwealth time trial he ran a windy 19.8 but it wasnt recognised as the appropraite officials werent present, but it was enough to qualify him for the 82 Commonwealths.

  • pietro mennea is amazing.

  • @angelrafaelrapallo Wells' legal best was 10.11. I don't think he ever ran at altitude. On his day, in the right conditions, he could have run 10 and 20 sec flat. He beat all the best American during his heyday, and was always close to Mennea, sometimes ahead of him - Mennea of course running 19.72.

  • Saw Steve Williams n Don Quarrie back then compete in 200m...that was some race.

  • Wells also ran under 10 wind aided i just learned

I did not know he was that fast, he was never mention as atop sprinter sorry

  • Actually Wells did run 10.02 once wind aided

probbaly close to 10.5 or 10.6

He was good dont get me wrong..but that race belong to Leonard...

    :O)

  • either way he was not in the top 5 sprinters

guys who ran from 9.95 to 10 like Leonard

and Williams or Valeri, Don Quarrie etc..

    He surprised

  • I meant Valeri the russian flash

Leonard at that time was the SECONd Fastest man in the world with 9.98 the first was Hines the World Record Holder with 9.95 every one else was above 10 seconds so

Leonard had bad luck...that is all he was not running his best and Wells looked better but Wells never ran faster than 10.15 so imagine Leonard ran 9.98 in Mexico...
